Conservation Area Description
Government 80 consists mainly of a mature woods, wetlands, grasses and naturally occurring bodies of water. The property is a favorite stop-over for migrating birds. An easement on adjoining property allows for limited access to the property, which had been landlocked for many years prior.

Revenue Sources Rotational timber harvests to manage properties are conducted periodically. A timber harvest took place in 2010 on Government 80 land.
Hunting Lease Rights Government 80 is leased yearly for private hunting rights from October 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021. During this time, visitors are not allowed to hike on the property, for safety reasons.
History
Government 80 was purchased by the Calhoun Conservation District in 2006 from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), as part of the Land Consolidation Strategy Sale. Yankee Appraisal Association conducted an appraisal of the property prior to the sale. A National Association of Wetland Conservation Act (NAWCA) grant and District funds were used to purchase the property. A land survey was completed in 2012 by Scott E. Koch, Surveyor.
